Adib Jalal is an urbanist on an exploration of making our cities great places for people to live in.
He is the Co-founder and Director of placemaking studio, Shophouse & Co a consultancy that helps developers and communities create lovable places for people to live, work, and play.
Previously, Adib served as the Festival Director of Archifest – a festival of ideas for the city – from 2012 and 2013 where he restructured it to its current form by introducing the Archifest Pavilion competition and other content pillars alongside a new visual identity. Prior to that, he had stints as a lecturer at Temasek Polytechnic School of Design; as a multi-disciplinary designer at award-winning design studio FARM; and as the Editor-In-Chief of FIVEFOOTWAY, a blog about Asian cities which he co-founded in 2007.
Passionate about nurturing communities, Adib is also an adjunct lecturer at LASALLE College of the Arts and volunteers time as a grassroots leader in his neighbourhood. He is a World Cities Summit Young Leader and also sits on the Global Placemaking Leadership Council.
Adib is based in Singapore and holds a Bachelor (Hons) Architecture from National University of Singapore. On top of his commitments, Adib makes sure that he reserves special time for family, football, and catching up on his reading and writing.
